AM4 has some more life for a while as a good budget choice. If youre on zen 1 (1000 & 2000 series) its time to upgrade. If you're on zen 2 (3000 & 4000 series) its time to look and see if you play games that need an upgrade, but its probably time. Zen 3 (5000 series) if you have at least 6 cores you should be good for a few more years with plenty of FPS, spend the money on a GPU. if you have a 5700x3d or 5800x3d youll be sitting pretty for a long time since moores law has lost its value as newer lithographies are more expensive than the previous gen starting at 28nm along with the performance gain from doubling transistor count has been diminishing since the 2000s
