I think there will be a double line coming in to your station. As your island is probably the end of the line, a little loop is all that's needed, no intersections or anything. The train tracks we're using do need a a fairly wide radius to turn. Grab yourself half a stack of wide train tracks if you want to get a feel for the spacing (of any colour you like, most of the line is andesite wide track).
I'd suggest keeping it to one platform something like this image here. That way you don't have to cross the track to get to the platform. The trains in motion can be dangerous and they've certainly racked up some player kills.
