Designer said the base animals were big cats. You can pretend she muddled up the designs a lá Eevee and the 'Lutions but that's just ignoring the reality of the situation (cheetahs have similar legs and paws to dogs, due to evolution adapting their bodies for running - claws stopped retracing to give them more purchase on the savannah chasing prey). Really oughta start paying attention to the natural world, it's where they pull their inspiration for their designs from.
