Well, yeah. Nearly all of mainstream western music nowadays is written by armies of professional musicians hired by producers to maximize it's spread so the lyrics are always at the end of the day insanely shallow and vapid but that's unfortunately what's necessary to get the attention of most amount of people. Now while Japan isn't completely innocent of that (see idol songs) you can definitely see a big difference of effort when a decent amount of the big mainstream songs in Japan still use real instruments when in the west it's 99% samples and highly produced instrument machines.
