Technically you are correct. However, large companies often have holdings that involve commercial real estate. If they all pulled up stakes and told employees to work from home they'd save a bit of money on their individual operating costs, but they'd suffer exponential losses when the market implodes. This happened during COVID when businesses couldn't operate and started closing up, rent stopped coming in, and the market took a big hit. It's just a big racket + status dickwaving contents to have the most posh office and corporate atmosphere.
