Most deaths from artillery and bombs are due to the living human body being extremely damaged from small pieces of shrapnel tearing through your torso, and the shockwave of explosives causing internal bleeding and damage to your head by basically bouncing your brain around your skull

Most zombies, including the ones in that book, are depicted as being completely fine unless you severely damage their brain or remove it from its connection to the body. Slightly damaging it or damaging the body is mostly meaningless. They aren’t going to bleed to death, or get infections, or have brain damage, their brain is already “dead” and has no higher function really

Of course this doesn’t make much sense scientifically but neither does most sci fi and people don’t seem to nitpick those as much.

Personally I always found zombies like the ones from 28 days later way more interesting than the Romero style zombies. Where it’s much more like some hyper rabies infection and the infected can just die from being shot, but you also have interesting angles to take like certain people being resistant or immune, or perhaps “smart” ones who can control themselves much more and are more dangerous

It’s one thing I hope to see in 28 years later. They established in the first movie that the infected are so single minded in just attacking people they don’t even eat food regularly. So they starve to death sooner than later. The sequel also still had heavy association with Danny Boyle so I’m assuming it’s canon, and that featured a “smart, infected in Robert Carlyle. And two people who were infected but only carriers, not showing typicalal symptoms

Hoping 28 years later has some kind of society ran by smarter infected, since 99% of infected would be dead by this point from just starving. Only the ones smart enough to eat and not run around naked would be alive still

Maybe this bone garden is something they built
