Yuuuuup, if you don't have one you are absolutely screwed as you don't have anything insulating the heat beneath you. They are great for hot weather as they'll make whatever it is feel 10 to 20 degrees colder, but in cool to cold weather... be ready to wake up freezing. I will say, it did well enough that I was able to outlast my friend who was sleeping in the tent and went home around 1 a.m., but I definitely need to figure out why I lost the heat so drastically.

Other than that, even with trees that were too close together and my hodgepodge of a set up, I slept really comfortably.
