I don't know where you see any depth in constantly checking reddit alien conversations in walls or finally finding an NPC to see 5 lines of dialogue and goodbye.
The game is not deep because everyone dies.
The game is not deep because it's indie.
The game is no deep because it has banjo music.
You can praise the game for things like how cool it is the Ash planet loses all its sand as the timer goes on, you can praise the game for the camera gameplay involving Quantum crystal walls and the Quantum Moon. You can even praise it if you want for not giving you directions so "you figure it out" (which only unemployed losers or kids have time for).
But certainly not for its story or "theme".
