It was fun in the beginning when things were fresh and exciting and there were new discoveries around every corner, but now it's just mind numbing tedium.
I am tired of wasting 20 minutes just to go investigate something to get one single line in my ship log (usually the exact same concept I've seen a half dozen other places in the game) that leads to absolutely nothing.
I am tired of having to fly all the way to bumfuck, nowhere for some stupid puzzle and not knowing if I can even solve it right now, or if actually the solution is on the other side of the galaxy in some unexplored area, wrapped under its own layers of bullshit.
I am tired of making a single misstep deep in a cave, or not being able to figure out the one specific obtuse puzzle solution the devs have chosen, and having repeat the entire loop again, then hurriedly try to solve the puzzle and cram all the readings down my throat before the sun explodes and forces me to start over from scratch.
And these readings and puzzle solutions which ultimately amount to... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Seriously, I have never seen a game that has both ZERO progression whatsoever, and also a completely static world. NOTHING changes from the second you start until the second you end. There is no combat, there are no tools, there are no upgrades, there are no permanent changes, there is no character progression, there are no environmental changes, there are no resources, there is NOTHING that is different, and your very first loop is the same as your 100th. Literally the ONLY ability I've earned in 15 hours is the ability to kill myself and start the next loop early, which should have been there from the jump. And the world is also completely fucking static, there are ZERO random elements, there are ZERO changes you can influence, and things always happen in the EXACT SAME ORDER every single time.
I am so ready to just drop it. I don't care about the worldbuilding, or some furfag race of Nomai, or the nonsensical physics that they just make up on the spot. I've already seen 95% of the game, and now comes the last 5% where I must wring blood from a stone to just get a single line of flavortext.
(Also I'm playing with the Echoes of the Eye DLC, not sure if that matters, or what parts of the game are part of that DLC)
>>717356253It sounds like you never even found the dlc location
Anyway, the game isn't that hard. You can do everything in 20 minutes or less
>>717356234 (OP)I would skip it if I were you. Don't force yourself to enjoy entertainment, that's just absurd.
I was hooked on this game for a weekend, couldn't put it down until I was done with it. The DLC didn't grab me the same way, so I just didn't play it.
>>717356234 (OP)Game's boring shit, i finished it with my boyfriend yesterday. I'm brown btw, forgot to mention.
>>717356596I am not surprised, there is like 500 red herrings that just lead to flavor text and lore dumps, and a couple events that actually do anything.
You have no tools or abilities, and there is zero progression or carryover between runs, so you have an extremely limited toolset with how you can approach situations, it's easier to just figure it out with trial and error.
>>717357057>>Progression isn't tied to numbers, but your understanding of the game worldNo wonder you incels and redditors like it so much, it's a game for people with nothing going on in their lives so they need to feel "smart" by remembering "oh this place told me i have to take a screenshot of the moon if i want to go in! i'll remember that" while people who actually have a life, a job and relationships want videogames to be FUN, not some pathetic "hey remember that tweet you just read from an alien? weeeell now you PROBABLY gotta go to Y planet to see what it was about!!"

I'm surprised people have any difficulty with this game at all
You can brute force your way into one of the final rooms in 10 minutes just by using a bit of common sense
>>717357057I already understand the world. If there is some kind of trigger, I just want to get it over with already, because so far I have done like 20 different plot threads and they all led to dead ends with a small lore dump or just rewording something I already knew and found out from a half dozen other locations.
I played the whole game blind and thought spoilers would really ruin it, but there is basically nothing to ruin. It's just a gay "experiential" type game where you just wander around planets and repeat the same bullshit over and over.
Because there is zero railroading, signposting, or even subtly leading you to one location, they had to make it so every single path you can take basically reaches the same result. What that amounts to is you just hear the same shit over and over and over because the game has to be designed in such a way that the experience is identical for someone who went to any given area first vs. last
>>717357375>dude I need to do this big long multi-loop plot thread to figure out.... those jellyfish literally going inside the core are how you get inside the core>dude I need to do this big long multi-loop plot thread to figure out.... avoid the anglerfish>dude I need to do this big long multi-loop plot thread to figure out.... quantum objects move when you aren't observing them

Because that's exactly what it is you fucking moron, and that's WHY we don't like it.
It's a bunch of pointless frivolous dead ends where you accomplish nothing and learn nothing, with a couple of those actually being the critical path that matters and the rest is just irrelevant, time-wasting window dressing.

And every single one of them will deny this while throwing petty insults when you call them out.
>>717357734Literally everything in the game is connected and will lead you to the same ending but somehow you are understanding it as dead ends?
>>717359387No, you dumbfuck, a dead end lore entry that is similar to the other 49 I already had is not "leading me to the same ending" unless the ending arbitrarily demands you have 50 bullshit lore entries in your ship log before you can see it
>>717359183The only thing I had to look up hints for was the jellyfish thing, and that's only because the game didn't make it clear enough that the tentacles won't zap you if you exit the ship. >>717356234 (OP)I have to confess.
I cheated at the Ash Twin Project section and the unavoidable Bell section of the DLC because I couldn't figure it out and got impatient when the end was right within my grasp.
I still didn't understand not even half of the story after watching several video essays and reading a huge reddit wall of text about it.
>>717360113I told you it didnt make sense. I was looking directly at the moon and it disappears because I got too close?

But fuck yes are some things annoying to get to or just plain bullshit. It's a 7/10 game, 8/10 once you finished it, but no masterpiece because of all the retard cave/ just a bit too weird puzzle mechanics.
>>717360223Yes. The final solution was retarded because it breaks the foundation of the game and the only way you could get a hint at it is if you're bad and accidentally killed yourself in a certain area.

>For the same reason they hate the Fallout 3 ending and TLOU2. The protagonist diesJesus christ you are new
People hated ME3's ending because, from the outset, Bioware said that the ending would account for many of the choices made throughout the previous games. Importing your save would truly matter, and it wouldn't just be a color swap of one cutscene
Then the game releases, people reach the ending and find that a Deus Ex Machina child literally just gives you three different outcomes that result in the same cutscene with different color lights. Nothing you did actually mattered.

The game is not deep because it's indie.
The game is no deep because it has banjo music.
You can praise the game for things like how cool it is the Ash planet loses all its sand as the timer goes on, you can praise the game for the camera gameplay involving Quantum crystal walls and the Quantum Moon. >>717356234 (OP)It's a tedious game. At the start when you have no clue what to do and you have no objective you are working towards it is unbelievably boring. You can't possibly be as bad at exploration as you pretend to be, you cannot miss the point that bad, you don't even mention the (hi)story the game have you recompose.
You can gather a lot of information in one loop, you just need to have a triple digit IQ to decide where to go next. If you have the computer in Rumor-mode it almost tells you where to go.
The majority of what you need can be gathered in any order, what you cannot take no more time than the average scripted scene in traditional games.
I finished the base game in 22 hours and I was fooling around a lot.

All the trophy/achievement percentages for this game are laughably low. Pretty much all most people did was dick around on different planets for a few hours before dropping it and moving on. A few people looked up online where to go to get the ending, but most people couldn't be bothered to even do that.
The interest and praise for this game is totally artificial. People didn't have fun, they didn't enjoy themselves, they didn't even unravel the mystery themselves, they looked a bunch of shit up online and just went through the motions. Hell, if you don't, you're the even bigger sucker because the game is just so chock full of pointless padding filler that wastes your time.

Is there something I'm supposed to find on Ash Twin? I've flown around like a spastic 3 times now after the sand has all been removed and not found anything aside from the warp stations. But you have to wait like 20 minutes and then only have like 2 minutes to look so it's a major pain in the ass and I probably missed some tiny detail.
Also, apparently one of the warp points is supposed to lead to the sun according to the logs in the Ember Twin lab? which I would assume is the sun station since there is no other way to reach it, but again, I have no idea which one since you have limited time and it takes like 5 minutes for the stupid fucking warp to initiate, so I can't even be bothered to test. And this is despite the fact the log says the room is supposed to match the theme of the target planet, but each Ash Twin warp room is just a generic room with no details.

I don't think OW is awful, I just think it's immensely overrated by people who treat zoomer Myst as some world changing event. It's a braindead simple exploration game that holds your hand the whole time, except for the very last puzzle where you actually have to put 2 and 2 together, but because the game never expects you to do this until this point and just spoonfeeds you the answers, a lot of players get stuck and look up the solution because they have learned helplessness.
Over the past few days I've been playing a recent porn game that has better world building than Outer Wilds. You have to run around a big open world DRPG collecting items and spells to better traverse the world and find new locations while constantly backtracking and taking mental notes of where you've been, and where you couldn't go and what you needed to go there. The game had a few optional sokoban dungeons, and I had more fun with those than I did with OW, because you actually have to sit there and think for a minute about how to push the blocks in the right order. OW doesn't have any of that, there are no puzzles to solve, and the revelations are hollow and empty because of it.

Also maybe you can't access the GOOD controls because you don't have their tools.

>>717369694same, that was really cool.
>>717374335>time managementHere, I'll fix the game in half a second. After the first couple of runs, just put a timer in the top corner of the screen. That way when I see something happen, I know what time in the loop it'll happen, so I can manage my time better.
Instead you're left going "well, I think it happened maybe 15 minutes into the loop? I wasn't really keeping track" and then you have to wait 5 minutes afterwards while not wanting to backtrek to the campfire, or you find out you're too late and it was before minutes, so now you've got to reset the run and wait AGAIN.

>>717373792>learning about a world is bad>sokoban is good
>>717374971Actually yes. It uses a shard from a Nomai statue as data storage.

Go play Blue Prince, it's actually got "knowledge based loop" down pat, and skill 100% plays into the game more than luck so don't listen to anons who say otherwise
>>717375062I assume you're talking about OW here and not fucking Pokemon. The world isn't interesting. The Nomai are uninteresting, terribly written characters. The Hearthians are dull. The locked up owl cuck in the DLC is a decent character, for someone who can't talk.
Most of the stuff you learn about the world is inconsequential. The coolest thing is seeing the third active mask, and then you realise what it really is later and it's lame and gay.
I don't even like sokoban. I just enjoy a game giving me a fucking puzzle to think about for 2 minutes, vs OW which gives you easy wins and treats you like a child. I'm sure if you're 12 it's the coolest shit ever, but I've played Myst, man. The only reason anyone would go nuts over a crappier version of Myst is if they never played Myst, which is incredibly sad.
>>717375089oh, convenient. I guess the hearthians just randomly happened upon that. it's not like it really plays a role in the lore though so that's fine.
>>717375379he's saying you need to unravel a long thread to figure it out, you're saying it's explained right away, and yet you say he's 100% correct?
>>717375476I played Myst and OW and if you think Myst is better than OW you're actually retarded.
Is a book of sudoku the ultimate video game for you? You just want puzzles dumbed town to their literal execution?
>>717375486He's saying the reward for these long threads is "discovering" information that didn't need explaining. The jellyfish one I could kind of see maybe needing the plot thread for, but "avoid the anglerfish" and the quantum objects one did not need a plot thread for them, it's just obvious/already explained in the beginning of the game. I will admit the log about the water tornadoes actually was helpful but every other time I found a log it was either a lore dump (for the most boring lore ever) or a repeat or explaining "don't get eaten by the scary monster"
>>717372402>Sure, you amass knowledge, but you do nothing with itBut you do,
Maybe you are too used to games telling you what to do, to realize that reaching the eye require you to make a decision that is not prompted by anyone but your curiosity to see what happen. Or maybe you are projecting how bad you are at these types of games unto others.
>>717375614>Is a book of sudoku the ultimate video game for you?I don't know why you're so hung up on the sudoku thing. It was just an example of a puzzle in a game that was honestly not even very puzzle heavy, I could tell you about the 10x10 tile dungeon where you had to move elevators around on a weighted system and then land on top of them by falling down the shaft to access different floors so you could get to the end and fight the boss if that makes you feel better.
I like puzzles, yes. I don't care much for most of the puzzles in OW, because they aren't really puzzles. Take something like the path to the quantum shit, the "solution" is just waiting for the planet to break apart enough for the room to go through the black hole. You can solve that "puzzle" by standing still and waiting. Most of the "puzzles" in the game are like this, and of the rest, most of those are "figure out how to go somewhere".
>>717375906>the obvious end point of the game is something I came up with all by myself!Wow man, great job. Thank god you told us all, or we might've never beaten the game!
>>717376073>I like puzzles, yes. I don't care much for most of the puzzles in OW, because they aren't really puzzlesyeah you're literally just a fucking brainlet lmao
go play crosswords or jigsaws, then you will be able to figure out that there's a puzzle going on and your smooth brain will be able to focus on the one singular thing it can handle at a time
>>717376202I'm really sorry you thought they were puzzles. I hope one day you get to play a real puzzle game without reading a guide, but you might be too dumb for it.
>>717375819He's still wrong about all of them. You're not told about the jellyfish, you're told how to use them. You're not told to avoid the anglerfish, you're told how to do it. You're not told that quantum objects move when not observed, you're taught specific rules about how they behave and how to exploit them.
You can safely ignore every retard like

They are basically like frogposters but too stupid to have a picture collection.
>>717373186>tediumThat's only you. The solar system is pretty fun to fly around without a goal.
It's not linear so even place you've visited several time feel new simply because it's very easy to approach it differently. It's very fun to decide to fly the ship inside Britlle Hollow to reach some place instead of walking.
>but you don't know if it's 8 minutes in or 12 minutes in, or you get somewhere at 20 minutes in and only have 2 minutes to quickly check for clues.90% of the cue can be read literally anytime, you even have a setting to stop time when reading.
I've seen players finish OW in 10 hours, you can easily waste more than 10 hours in RPG. It took twice that long, but I had abandoned the game for months until getting back to it and discovering it was actually awesome

I just want to say I'm really glad I discovered OW through /v/ a couple years ago, it's the single best rec I got from this board and the anons who praised it were good as describing and championing it without ever spoiling it and the threads were civil and interesting and passionate. Now it's nothing but cheap bait and unironic retards, I feel bad just opening a thread now knowing it will be nothing but cancer, I feel bad that because dominant board culture is now nothing but irony poisoned brownoid buzzword game-hating brainrot, some casual onlooker might just dismiss the game now because he may associate it with such stupidity and shit flinging or he'll just go in with this kind of rotten mindset and will just miss out on this incredible experience. It's a truly special video game, the kind that reminds me why I love video games in the first place. That this one pure gem that's so full of game magic and wonder is now only used for putrid subhuman shitposting is disheartening. There was this one beautiful thing in a sea of shit and you tainted it and covered it in shit like the rest. This is /v/ now. Just shit covered in shit. I say a sincere thank you to the og anons and a sincere fuck you I hate you to the rest of you retards.
