look how molds work, you can't have overhangs, you can't do a barrel flat on the sprue and make it have a hole on one end, because the mold comes from either side not from the front
if you ever put together anything square that comes in to halves you can see how is never really square becuase it needs a draft angle to be able to came off the mold at all

picrel is a barrel with a hole on the sprue, you can see how the edge of the sprue has a slot for a third element to come in from the side of the mold to do the hole
