KH2 combat was cooler overall, but you eventually tire of performing combo strings on mob enemies. You can clear them with magic, but they are all so similar.
However, KH2 boss fights were such an upgrade that I struggle to imagine 1 & 2 in the same franchise. Commands, stylish fighting, etc. were maginificent. The trouble is that most boss fights in 2 are against literal whos who eat dust when they touch your keyblade. 1 had better boss & enemy designs.
In defence of 1's combat, you truly felt you were role-playing as Sora because of his basic combos that are reflected in his actions.
Apologies for speaking so much on combat. I have yet to meet any IRL Kingdom Hearts fans, so it's nice to discuss here.
