The only scenes Marcia Lucas edited were the final battle and all the scenes with Biggs and Luke and SHE fought to keep them in the movie. It was George who wanted to cut them, and since George was the director and had final cut approval any change like deleting a scene was always George's choice to make. She also fought to keep the Jabba scene in, it was George who cut it back in the 70s.

>(and Francis Ford Coppola if the rumours are true)
What rumors? Coppola was the only one of George's friends who liked that first draft script he wrote (where Han Solo was an alien and it ended with the Wookiee planet and so on.) He had nothing to do with the editing. What are you talking about?
Look I know where you've got this from but it's a bullshit internet myth. The production of Star Wars, including the editing, is absurdly well documented - I'm talking down to a forensic level of detail. That whole narrative that the movie was crap and got magically saved by the editors/George's ex-wife/George's film-maker friends is pure horseshit - it's just Star Wars making shit up on the internet cause they didn't like something.
