I'm rewatching season 2 now and it's not as bad as I remember it being.
It's biggest issue is repeating scenes between Rhaenyra/Jace and Rhaenyra/White Worm.
There is a solid 6 episode cut you could make out of it.

I think the idea that they'll finish it in 4 seasons is unlikely unless HBO intervenes and forces them to finish it.
