More or less, in ADnD you had some very classical designs. pic related is the example image the player's book used for Paladins.

That being said, some images from 5E aren't so bad, they are even more fantasy-y, but it is expected. I think 3E and 4E were much worse, design-wise (even though 3E is still my favorite mechanically).
