I dunno. Are you having trouble with enemies or boss fights? If so, maybe farm a bit to grab those upgrades now. Personally, I don't remember doing any farming and I cleared out most of the shops early on. Then again, I did a lot of exploring.

The game wasn't that hard imo and that was after I made it harder by refusing to use things like the revive items.

Also, 2nd Airborne was one of my favorites too.
