Not a "lore-improvement" to me. Though, I DO LIKE that it essentially makes Shinra (the Al-bhed) a legitimately greedy, power-hungry, life-dismissing asshole prick worthy of all the hate people view to people without moral purpose. "Just invent all science and FUCK the planet, who cares? I can do whatever the fuck I want. I'll die before it's my problem."
