I think this episode is excellent, and I'd say it's really underrated considering I can't remember the last time I've seen people discussing it. So I'm going to talk about it a lot.

We open with the train ride to the games, where we see everypony preparing in their own way. Spike is seen taking good care of the luggage, emphasizing his role and work ethic. Rainbow enters and gives a quick inspiration speech, leading to a nice little interaction between her and Scootaloo. This is a small moment, but it accomplishes a few things simultaneously. This is an excellent sign of character growth for Rainbow, as she's able to accept the fact that she's going to lose. Scootaloo also takes the initiative to raise Rainbow's spirits, a nice reversal on their usual dynamic. This dialogue also acts as a nice callback, as both Rainbow and Scoots have experienced heavy self-doubt in previous episodes centered on preparing for the games. Finally, it clearly states the moral of the episode: "winners or not, we still have the chance to be awesome," a theme that we're going to explore far more thoroughly in the bulk of the episode.
