Any alien species capable of distant space travel would be so advanced that we would seem like cavemen throwing rocks at a modern military. If they wanted to destroy us, they could do so easily, whether by bombarding the planet with space debris or bioengineering a virus that wipes out humans but spares other life. However, Earth would likely hold nothing of value for them, as they could obtain all of its resources more easily in space. If aliens ever chose to communicate with us, it would most likely be nonhostile.
