You're confusing high power with high output impedance. A low output impedance amp, no matter how powerful, will still make them ear rape garbage(their true sound). An in-line resistor will boost their midbass and upper treble, no matter how weak the amp is. You can see what's going to be boosted by looking at the impedance graph of the headphones.
