Superman Returns was a flop. Nobody actually likes campy boyscout Superman. WB wanted a more action pack realistic take like TDK so they hired the TDK writer David S. Goyer, got Snyder who directed 300 and Watchmen and Nolan was a producer. Only fucking boomers got mad about him killing Zod. Millenials identify with Smallville TV show and Clark Kent saving people in secret is more interesting than the Superman character boomers like.
