That's what killed Scott Kalitta, fuel wouldn't shut off after the blower explosion that destroyed the body and took the chutes with it (in this photo you can see Scott reaching for the chutes), so even though Scott was hard on the brakes the whole way to the end the nitro-dieseling motor drove the car through the trap and hard into the concrete barrier.
