>Yes, Jews Ashkenazi Jews are more closely related as a community than those outside of it. The term "inbreeding" feels quite harsh, but it is true that we have historically been a more insulated community--tending to live in specific places (often by force), and marrying other Jews. Subsequently, we have a higher incidence of certain diseases; most famous among these is Tay-Sachs. My husband and I are both Ashkenazi, so we did genetic testing in preparation for trying to conceive in the next two years. It was quick, easy, and covered by insurance. The best part was that my gyno's chart notes to ensure insurance cooperated essentially amounted to the "condition of being Jewish." I was cracking up; I felt very bona fide.
