I often see people wonder why states like Nevada and Arizona don't operate off solar and its precisely because it cannot generate a practical amount of electricity to meet the demand. Yes, solar panels have gotten better, especially the last decade, but they still are not efficient enough. And they do not operate at night, and in Vegas or here in Phoenix, its still 93 outside at 1am.
Pic related, the current temperature. 102 outside, and its 10:30 pm, at night.
So that means also needing either A another source of electricity or massive battery fields. Its solar is simply not practical yet. Maybe next century, but not now.
