Why hasn't yurop invented AC yet? are they running their pcs on like 2 watts due to heating issues or something?

Old people here think turning on the AC makes you sick.
My Grandpa refuses to turn on the AC while he is home he keeps opening the windows when it's 40 degrees C outside and then complains that it is too hot, but still refuses to close the window and turn on the AC.

Because rentoids like Germans aren't typically allowed to DIY their apartments with permanent modifications. You also can't install AC's anywhere afaik if they use fluorinated gases and you're not certified. So that leaves propane basically, since CO2 is high pressure.

>crack water from the sea and then ship the hydrogen to other places to burn
this incurs a net loss and hydrogen molecules (it's H2 naturally fuck u!!!) are so small that the permeability of typical tanks presents a genuine issue. the types of tanks you need to store hydrogen aren't crazy exotic or anything but it's more expensive than a big concrete cistern as is currently used for fossil fuels (or plain ass annealed steel tanks for literal gas) and they're harder to maintain because the liners used can't be repaired by mexicans you pay 3$/hour to weld them back into shapte

Happens. Especially with old people.
It's not just water you need, as well. If you lose too much salt you can end up in a state similar to a stroke. Happened to both of my parents (though not at the same time).
You can even be drinking, so you don't really feel thirsty, but not drinking enough so your body is still getting dehydrated.

I know that but they're using gaseous hydrogen (maybe transported as liquid) not solid rocket fuel lmao

the issues are what I already described; it's a false economy because yeah you save the cost of a new plant but the infrastructure to create and transport hydrogen is, as the kids say, wack. on top of needing electricity to generate the hydrogen, it's not even "green" in the end. the better alternative is to just decommission the fucking plant after investing into hydro/tidal/wind/nuclear but that is a huge up front cost so no government wants to do it. same reason everywhere is getting bugbot people pods instead of investing in trams and trains; those things are expensive, and even though the bugpods are even more costly since they have a lower individual unit cost it doesn't make boomer politicians and NIMBYs as upset

the real reason is that in the EU/UK they say every OLD DEATH is due to heat so they dont have to admit their care programs dont work

in the US they don't count heat deaths in general because then they would have to admit that working conditions in the US are inhumane or that ol' pablo should at least be wearing a hat while he picks strawberries

as a wannabe seamstress(male) and Carer About Looks i will say that parkas can be sexy when they're not retardo hood thot diaper quilt ski jackets. and it's simply easier to throw on a parka when it's cold than to appropriately layer if you just need to hit the grocery store or something and don't need fine control over your temperature.

>20 to 0 f
that's -6 to -20 in real people values; -20 is literal survival suit weather but -6 yeah I can get away with a long sleeve thin shirt for indoors, with a hoodie and my suede windbreaker-esque jacket. normies are stupid though and dont realize that they need to do the same layering with pants. wearing PJs under your pants is a pro gamer move and keeps you looking good and feelign comfy

idk why normies sleep on scarves too, i never see people wearing scarves anymore unless it's some college-age thot wearing an "infinity scarf" extra loose in +10C weather. I have two keffiyehs and theyre fantastic for staying comfy (or maybe even a little too hot!!) in cold weather. one's nice synthetic fleece, the other is wool. the keffiyeh/shemagh "big fukken square of cheap cloth" scarf is very effective and while i enjoy mine being "unique" i would recommend to anyone to pick one up if the word "tactical" doesn't appear anywhere on its store page and isn't uttered by the salesperson where you buy it

its not explained or cited anywhere were that numbers come from. and i tried to find for more sources, the only you find is that they retracted from the inital 176k number to more than175
see https://www.who.int/europe/news/item/01-08-2024-statement--heat-claims-more-than-175-000-lives-annually-in-the-who-european-region--with-numbers-set-to-soar
but i also found this bellow on politico, i mean some of those are way hotter than euro, and no way you can count tajikistan as an euro country
>The WHOโ€™s European region includes 53 countries in Europe and the Caucasus, along with Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

it really sounds as a number from a study taken out of context and exacerbated, and that noone actually know where it cames from

AC does in fact make you sick.
I'm not kidding, but, I'm talking about the real-world and real people here. Not a theoretical situation. In a perfect world it would never make you sick.

The problem isn't the AC but lack of maintenance and improper usage making them grow mold and that's how they poison you.

>Leave the fans on either 24/7 to prevent condensation buildup (or for 3hours after switching from "cool" to "fan" mode)
>Leave the AC on "Cool", never "auto" as this will automatically turn on/off the condenser to maintain temps without turning off the circulation
>CLEAN YOUR FUCKING FILTERS
>CLEAN YOUR FUCKING FILTERS MORE OFTEN THAN IS RECOMMENDED
>SERIOUSLY CLEAN YOUR FILTERS
>CLEAN THEM MORE OFTEN
>the "recommended" frequency is for "clean" house operation, and you aren't running air purifiers so stop kidding yourself, you need to clean them more frequently. Just accept this. Stop being in denial.
>Clean your unit (window) or your vents (central systems) every year.
Do this, and your AC won't make you sick.
Unfortunately this is too much to ask.

The filter is on the inside, you have a panel you can pop off and remove a washable filter.
I vacuum mine every two weeks and wash it with soap and cool water every month or two, pat it dry, pop it back in and turn it back on. At the end of the summer I remove it from my window to disassemble it and clean everything, then put it back together and store until next year.

I'm from the US as well.
AC makes people sick here too, they just don't realize it.
>"Why is my kid sneezing all the time in the summer when it gets hot? It makes no sense!"
>"Oh, pollen!"
>Meanwhile the kid doesn't sneeze at all when outside or in other people's homes or in school or in nature, just at home.
Many such cases.
People get used to smells too and it's easy for people to walk in and smell a home with moldy AC while the homeowners are unaware because it's been growing for years and they just think that's how its supposed to smell.

The same kind of people also get poisoned by their CPAP machines because they don't listen when they're told to clean them. "My germs can't hurt me!" and shit. Willful retardation.

If you don't have a panel, you have a slide-in.
If you don't have either, you clearly can't even afford a window AC unit and probably aren't a US citizen.

If that's the case, I hope ICE catches you and puts you in a cage.
If not, find your model number and find the filter. It absolutely has a filter and you are absolutely supposed to clean it regularly. Modern (last 20 years) window AC units even have an LED that tells you to clean the filter which works based on X amount of power-on hours for the fan, which is usage based. The more you leave the fan on the more frequent you're supposed to clean it.

Heat is heat and insulating yourself after overnight chilling isn't always effective. It is quite common for homes to get hotter than the outside air so having them close could just be cooking you even worse.

$3 is still more than I made at my first job. All you have to do is start in a clerical position and work your way up! I went from assistant to vice president by staying at the company for 36 years. When I got hired in 1987 I was only making $18,000 a year! You kids are complaining about making $30,000 to start??? It's ridiculous. When me and my wife retired we worked HARD our whole lives and EARNED a 1.6 million dollar home. We bought it for $400,000 and sold because we were SMART and HARDWORKING. Kids these days don't want to WORK and keep leaving the company every year. Well let me tell you I did some hiring and I DONT WANT NO JOB HOPPER. You gotta PAY YOUR DUES and wait 5 years before you get promoted or a raise and DON'T YOU EVEN TRY negotiating with me because I'll just fire you on the spot. I EARNED my 3 rental homes we retired with and we were SMART when we signed at 3% interest in 2002. My mortgages on then are only $500 and the rent I charge is $2,100. And don't even THINK it's easy, I have to pay handymen to fix the drier or pull out a tree like once every 3 months on EACH house. Let me tell you covid almost busted me on that rent stuff but we made it through. Still can't believe I fell for that vaccine stuff be me and her got the two plus one booster before we caught it anyway....

Anyway you kids need to learn what HARD WORK IS. I'm glad that there are immigrants who know what it is to work. I can't BELIEVE how lazy you are.

Birtbong here, I'm sitting next to my portable AC unit I bought like 4-5 years ago.

It cools my room just fine and it doesn't bankrupt my energy bill to have it on, I just think its a cultural difference and the fact that we don't get extreme heat year round, houses are made to trap heat in because winter is cold etc

No one has it built into their homes, no one thinks to buy a portable one and just get a cheap cover for the window to shove the exhaust out of.
I'm certainly of the mindset that more people in the UK should own an AC for the room they spend the most time in, its a total no brainer to have at least one room that feels good to sit inside.

AC requires a lot of power. It's hard to run a house off the grid with solar panels if you have an AC. I live in Phoenix, and nearly everyone with solar still has to tap from the grid because the AC will push you to the limit. You need more than "just a couple" of solar panels.

During fall and spring you can get away not needing to tap from the grid but thats because the AC will be either off (fall) or partially on (spring) but once summer hits the AC will never be off from May - October. 24/7 operation.

To give you an example of how much electricity AC uses, December my bill will be around $110-$170 a month (depending how warm December is for that year). During July my bill is around $500-600.

My unit, a Lennox XC16-048-230-02, at peak load will use 6,000 watts. Averaging around 4,000-5,000 watts since its a two stage compressor.

Thats a good way to destroy your fan (the Air Handler). The reason why you use a filter is to prevent dust building up and clogging the fan that moves the air. The AC unit itself is just the compressor with its own fan to keep the compressor cool, inside your attic (or basement) you will have a Air Handler fan that actually sucks in the air to move it around the house. Without it, your AC unit if worthless.

The whole meme is that yuros claim they would only need A/C a few weeks a year so it isn't worth it, but in the modern world of tomorrow there are these neat things called heat pumps that are much more efficient than any other form of heating while also doubling as A/C since it's the same fucking process in reverse. But hey, SOMEONE has to buy all of that Russian energy.

ok, that's 12 500W or 15 400W panels. that + charger/inverter (forget the DC aircon) + 5kWh battery should cost about $3k. having someone install the system should be $1-2k I guess (not sure, I bet american installers are huge jews). with enough sun, that would reduce your bill by a lot.

I often see people wonder why states like Nevada and Arizona don't operate off solar and its precisely because it cannot generate a practical amount of electricity to meet the demand. Yes, solar panels have gotten better, especially the last decade, but they still are not efficient enough. And they do not operate at night, and in Vegas or here in Phoenix, its still 93 outside at 1am.

Pic related, the current temperature. 102 outside, and its 10:30 pm, at night.

So that means also needing either A another source of electricity or massive battery fields. Its solar is simply not practical yet. Maybe next century, but not now.

15 panels, for just the AC. Thats nothing else. You have a fridge, you have a microwave, a washer, a dishwasher, you have everything else that plugs into a wall socket, and heaven forbid you have an electric stove and dryer.

Good luck slapping 15 panels on your roof, even more good luck slapping 30. A 9KW system will cost around 40k and your efficiency will be solely dependent on orientation as well. Not all homes are suitable. My neighbor found that out the hard way.

Here in AZ (Phoenix) we have a decent tech sector in the east valley. Now with TSMC, west valley is getting some love. Prior to that it was citrus, cotton, copper and overall mining. A lot of flatland and the canal system made the region decent for farming. Prior to air conditioning no one really lived in central and south AZ full time. It was very sparse population wise. If you wanted to live in AZ, northern AZ was the only practical region. With its region mostly coming from mining and lumber.

It's actually hard to dig here. The soil is hard to penetrate. Costs a lot to dig. Basements make logical sense for such a region but the soil being very hard to dig in makes it not practical for homes.

Though for whatever reason we keep making teo stories outhere and more high density apartments that makes every little sense, cooling wise. Heat rises... Two stories cost double to cool than single stories, and more if they tack on a second AC system to split the floors. Really hard to cool the top floor.

Yeah you can die from heatstroke, and in WA where I'm originally from, you could die from freezing to death. Pros and cons to everything.

>your efficiency will be solely dependent on orientation as well
you don't say? I forgot to add the roof mount for the panels, so add another $1k. that shit can help you put them in the correct orientation if you have enough space.

it's a well-known secret at this point but most European governments discourage air conditioning through propaganda, calling it an Americanism, environmentally unsound and so on. They also disuade its use via pricing structures for residential electrical usage. This isn't for environmental reasons exactly but it is a convenient cover. The goal is to eliminate the elderly more rapidly. They are often stalwarts against their new agenda and more over drain the pension funds while they are earmarked for graft. It's a simple process and wasn't even a conspiracy but multiple independent governments coming to the same conclusions as warming started impacting southern Europe and then moved north.

What part of Europe? Probably 95% of the people living on 45 parallel or below have AC. The ones that do not have AC live in mountain ares that do not need AC. North of the 45th it is probably at least 50/50 depending on the regional climate. Why would you need an AC in Scotland when you will only used for 10-20 days tops. Having AC or not have nothing to do with the the fact if you can afford it but if you need it. Poorest parts of Greece have multiple ACs in every home unlike Norway and they make 1/5 of the average wage in Norway, you can probably guess why. That being said most ACs are mini split. They are more efficient than the window type ones that no one here uses and lower maintenance than the multi split systems. When someone uses multi split it is some off the shelf solution with for 2-3 inside bodies. The water/water heat pump systems are very expensive and only used when someone wants to gave heated floor in the winter and you have to be really careful every time you work in you backyard where the underground pipes are buried. You also have to consider if the region is prone to earthquakes as this can be a concern for this systems too.

That's the thing you can't and will never understand. If you wish to understand why something is the way it is you have to look in the past and more specifically in its inception. Just make a little research and see what was the language the first draft of the US constitution was written and you will understand why a mutt golem without roots will never understand why a 400 yo house is more valuable than his AC or the ability to add another roof line to his cartboard mcmansion.

You literally took an arbitrary time point to pretend like that was the best and that it has to be preserved for whatever reason. You're the classic yuropoor poster child of the post-national communist state.

>If you wish to understand why something is the way it is you have to look in the past and more specifically in its inception.
No, you fucking don't, you retard.
Just like in every fucking day, things come about because of arbitrary decisions.
It's the worst fucking kind of "why something is the way it is". Like fucking nasa building shit based on railroad tunnels because why the fuck not.
This is why you can't innovate for shit.

To have a new house with all new technology will cost you ~2 milion$. To have 400 yo house on the same place will not have a price because you will need a time machine for this. You can't understand something that is not new, trendy, cheap, easy and convenient. I will give you an example with cars because you can understand something that have not happened in a lifetime. The most expensive Ferrari is ~80 years old and cost 40 million, there are only 2 or 3 left. It does not have an AC, the seating position is bad, the seat is more uncomfortable that new economy car and its slower than your mom minivan. Every new Ferrari better than it and the most expensive new Ferrari cost 10 times less. Then why it is more flex to pull in the old one than a new one? Same with living in historical house. Yes it is more uncomfortable to live but it is like comparing a new Tesla to 250 GT California Spyder.

>>105905864
>there are 400 year old houses in the US, but no one lives in them.
Because they are so few you turned them into museums. Daddy government decided that house is relic so valuable no one must live in it and you complain about other governments who allow their citizens not only to own relicts but use them and live in them as long as they preserve the historical value. But thanks for making the arguments against your position.

>the US is older than germany and italy

When you ask a modern American what he is and he will tell you he is probably 1/4 irish 1/4 italian 1/4 german and 1/4 who knows what why do you think he will tell you this? This countries that did not exit by your understanding 200 years ago have no cultural or genetic meaning and yet most americans know shit like this. And even if we assume modern greeks have little to nothing in common to ancent greeks then who does the most in common to ancient greeks? The Polish? Or maybe Koreans? What about the chinese. They had 3 big population migrations in the last 2000 years so the ancient chinese probably have nothing in common with modern chinese by this logic.

You are brain damaged. Arguing a delapidated barn is worth living in more than a regular home.
By that train of thought live in a cave since our ancestors did. Sure it has literally nothing going for it, and maybe even bears, but it's like comparing a new tesla to a spyder.

> Daddy government decided that house is relic so valuable no one must live in it and you complain about other governments who allow their citizens not only to own relicts but use them and live in them as long as they preserve the historical value.
Not at all how it works.
You apply for it to be considered a relic, it gets massive tax cuts and you can treat it as a relic for visitors. This also prevents it from getting demolished or called a hazard and foreclosed and subsequently destroyed. Nobody in their right mind would live in it.

You're either shitposting or a retard, either way there's a reason Europeans are a fucking joke. You invented electricity first, you propelled yourselves forward beyond anyone else's comprehension. You have 150 years of technological headway on china and you lost it all.
