>In Versos ending I see nothing but pain for Maelle
This was also the most brutal part of that ending, other than Lune's stare. Alicia is just standing there holding Esquie as she watches the last memory of her friends vanish. And the fact that she's holding the Esquie plushy, like she's just desperate for a hug or for some kind of warmth from a friend after everything that just happened. Fuck, that was just tragic.
But I think it's important to remember that Verso's last words to her are, "You'll be okay... you have this incredible ability to paint." He's telling her that she'll have to create a brand new "life to love" as the title of the epilogue implies.
It's a daunting task, and it's not fair. But it is possible. And the pain she's feeling now CAN be overcome. She has the ability to do it. And really, that's what Renoir and Aline should have been doing from the get-go - together, as a family. Recovering from grief is hard work, but you have to try.
