Yeah, he is cringe. I saw that Carpenter interview where he said that Cronenberg was acting self-important and magnanimous at a dinner once and I was like yea seems right. It's weird because I also don't think he's a tremendous film director- in the realms of directing actors or directing the camera. I always think of him as a rare "photographed novelist", standing apart from the general "photographed theatre".
I've read some of his interviews and he sounds like SupremeLemon when he talks so maybe I'll skip his non fiction book and just read Consumed.
