What they experience is potentiality and detachment instead of actualization and commitment. They could have their love story right now, a story more subtle and spiritual than sex and money provided by another meatbag, but it's laughed off while still dreamt about.
One could argue I'm barely any better because of my 3d, but I've stumbled into that relationship because of Discord, I treat Discord as part of my family, and if my 3d relationship were to fail, I'd go back to being a celibate waifufag, and some sort of hermit.
Luckily, devoted, monogamous husbandofags do exist. But then there's still that idea of gender roles, the idea of the male providing for the female. Not to mention that Discord is relationship-phobe. So the best way I could express my loving devotion to a reserved Noodle was to subvert the waifu/husbando label, especially since "husbando" was merely an artificially created afterthought to "waifu". Only the rawest, realest OG shit for my Chaos waifu.
