>you're teleported to Yahar'gul and told to "Seek the nightmare newborn"
>okay new objective
>bonus points, you see "Behold! A Paleblood sky!" after the Yahar'gul secret ritual is revealed and you realize Paleblood™ was referring to it so now your new objective is just to find the newborn
>follow Yahar'gul's trail to Micolash and via him, the Nightmare

That's Bloodborne's plot in a first plathrough. No Moon Presence, no umbilical cords, no Cainhurst, no complications. You sought Paleblood and found it, you sought the newborn and slew him. You're shown how the night of the hunt is something that happens time and time again, how there's been other hunters that visited the dream before you and in the basic ending, you end up being just one more of those. You came, you "killed some beasts" like your boss told you to, and you left in the Waking World
