This thread is a year old but I'll pass on my secret tech to anyone passing through. If you make a level 50 demo hero that usually gets deleted after one game, start a skirmish with him, fill every item slot with an item, get your hero killed, then win the map, they will be saved in your hero roster and you can just use them like normal. Easy if you go Undead or Empire to use the library to learn the first alchemy spell that creates items to fill out your slots.
Anyway a bunch of the portraits and voices in this game made me feel a certain kind of way as a growing boy, especially that incredibly slutty wood nymph and the sadistic dark elf female.
