People are fooled by the fact that Amnesia (cage boy that looks like a bee) and Diabolik Lovers (guy that throws the girl in the pool) got an anime and contain memorable shock content. A lot of otome are boring as fuck.
Collar x Malice and Code:Realize are basically THE otome, and the closest to abuse you get is the one guy had some plot drama going on with like a cult or something and he was being funny about how he was handling it since he didn't want the MC to get involved but she's a cop and there's plot and something something. I don't remember the particulars since it's been like 5 years and it wasn't even that good.
Probably the better otome I would generally recommend to someone is Even If Tempest though, and the MC is basically one of the bros with the LIs since they're all friends. Her life is fueled by murderous rage but she's pretty cool day to day.
