The entire controversy arises from official supplementary material saying her "gender is not disclosed" (which by itself is a different thing from non-binary/X-gender) but everyone who is not an ideologue knows this is code for saying she is Not Like the Other Girls so as to enhance her appeal, even the main writer discusses her together with other female characters and Hachi Ohger's actor praised her being the only female character in NHK's top 30 poll
