Now, I know what a travesty trench crusade is to the point where the artist probably did it out of ignorance and indifference to the theological significance.
Especially considering it's correct in the icon strapped to the belt, with the same icon being strapped to the right arm where it's again flipped for seemingly no reason other than slight visual variety.
But the symbolism in doing so is quite satanic, as the angle of the footrest represents the wise thief (to the right from Christ's point of view) being saved.
