This is just me throwing ideas at the wall, so don't take this too seriously, but one thing that came to mind after reading this interview is that Meroron lost the ability to feel Purirun's warmth. I'm probably way off the mark, but I got the feeling that the price Meroron paid was secretly kind of messed up, and Meroron's poetry tends to refer to Purirun as her light and warmth.
