.32 is actually pretty damned effective. The caveat being that heavy clothing can keep .32 S&W and .32 ShW Long from penetrating adequately..32acp, .32 H&R Magnum and .327 Federal Magnum don't seem to have much of a problem. There's accounts on the early 20th Century of various .32 caliber revolvers being the standard police issue side arm. T
