For whatever reason, EA chose not to actively sabotage the series, and even stepped in when a renegade "author" tried to shove her self insert fetish in and derail the character dynamics.
I'm still amazed this happened. I can only assume they're pissed off enough at disney tanking the IP that they're willing to give them the finger.
