If you're already using Savage Worlds then Savage Rifts is just fine, you don't need to learn the Palladium system, it's a big mess and a huge headache for newbies.
This guy >>95814727 is only half or a third right in his criticisms. The Savage Rifts system is mostly fine although it does have a range and glass cannon problem, but the setting stuff has mostly stayed the same. Just bear in mind that because the sheer volume of printed Rifts books is about 20x greater than what SavRifts has printed you are getting far less information - some of it very cool information - about each section of the world. For the complete info you need to read the Palladium world books in their entirety. But for a short campaign that's perfectly fine.
