One could consider the Japanese and English versions as separate canon. Anyway, they do touch on the same idea. That humans and Pokémon used to be considered the same thing but are not any more, with them both giving an example of something they used to do but don't any longer as because of that. The difference here is the example. The Japanese version has humans marry Pokémon and Pokémon marry humans. The English version instead opting for being close and eating at the table together.

I'm posting here in this thread because it's entertaining me, I've yet to be given any definitive example by anyone here that this franchise supports human X Pokémon.
