Well how did we come to this gee I dunno look at the people you fucking work with and see if anything you said applies to them too, as if it fucking doesn't? Like look at ebassi, drew devault, corey dale ehmke, and so many others and how god damn self righteous you all are and then how you leverage your moderation powers to ban anyone who disagrees with any decisions you make, and bad discussing the competition in a positive way, or egg people on into getting into arguments you can ban them over, then get all smug about it on social media. And you get away with it all because you work in such an esoteric field that most people don't know how to disprove your cult of personality if they say e.g. the commits were shit or a project has insufficient activity to be worth giving a shit about. And then you rely so much on people with extra protection to shield you from criticism.
And you literally work on linux operating system components and you're not a linux nerd somehow? Biggest case of 2 for 1 pot calling the kettle black I've seen in a good while.
But of course it all really started because project owners didn't have the fortitude, and didn't want to accept the reduction in development activity, that keeping corporate employees out of positions of authority on the projects, would bring.
Throw in a bit of ad funded mainstream media taking the side with the most money at all times and it's no wonder it turned into such a shitfest. Without everyone with authority working to stop conflicts, stop sides from form in the first place, and stopping money from taking leveraging those sides, the in fighting was inevitable.
