I can speak to this. I was given an IQ test of some kind in 4th grade I believe? They praised me and the next thing I remember school wise, they put me in honors. The first day I was told to stand infront of the class and read from whatever novel they were in the middle of. I wasn’t even privy to the book, nor do I remember the book now, but I failed to read the passage not because I couldn’t but because I was socially awkward. After this failure I was placed in the extreme opposite finding myself in literal special education classes with only four other students. One was this hot blonde I’ll never forget, but goddamn she must have been faking because this girl was beyond hope academically. I’m sure her only fans exists, goddamn she was smoking. It actually required my parents to forcefully remove me from special education my freshman year of highschool, and the school strongly recommended against it. Of course I went on hating the system from that point and literally slept through most of my classes going forward. I do have some fleeting memory’s of what’s described by GATE kids. I do remember the covered windows and weird lessons although it’s very foggy. My memories of the “special education” part of my life likely was GATE.
