>because everything I've tried I've failed at miserably lol. I have nothing to show for my efforts. my life is a joke
I know it seems trivializing to say, but you should take pride in trying because most people won't even do that. And failing doesn't make you a failure, it's literally just a part of life. What makes you a failure is giving up. It's easy to look at other people and think that everything comes easy to them or that they never failed, but everyone does, and some people are going to fail a lot more than others before they get it right. But if you stay consistent, it will eventually pay off. There's a Mike Tyson quote that I really love: https://youtube.com/shorts/IJCxuJ68Ojc
And I say all this as someone that was suicidal and hated every aspect of my life. When people say, "It gets better" it's impossible to imagine. In that time, even if you knew it was a guarantee, it wouldn't matter because you feel so hopeless and helpless. But it does get better when you put in the effort to make it better.
>too mentally ill to change anything
You might need some outside help. There's no shame in asking for help, as much as you may feel like there is or that it's your fault.
