Not just family. People are slow to warm up but when you make friends there ypu make a friend for life. If you have a disfunctional family, you still have a friend group who will look out for you.
I mean took me in for months kinda look out for you when I had no place to live.
I don't know if it's like this anymore. Since COVID everyone feels like a brainwashed mess and no one is close anymore or likes to just "hang out" and spend time together.

New Mexico is weird and Las Cruses is basically a suburb of El Paso. It has a lot of cool stuff like hot springs and ski slopes.
But if you think El Paso is poor, oh buddy you ain't seen nothing till you lived in NM (Albuquerque and Santa Fe excluded).
