I actually hadn't checked before this and apparently this game doesn't tell you the added turn total like the others or something, but these are the turn counts for some of the final chapters for reference, longest 3 maps were 15 at 40 turns, 19 at 45 turns, and prologue 8 which apparently took a whopping 52, total average is probably ~20-25, that's what most chapters took
on the topic of reliability, I used every tool I had available to not do battle against enemies with crit rate against me and keep my hit rates at at least around 90 or above, most chapters were simply a matter of executing the strats I had already planned out in previous runs and attempts
the most unnecessary thing I did to add risk is that I often went for side objectives even when they weren't strictly needed, most notable in the fact I played chapter 15 at all and actually did get the complete wolfguard recruit (not very statistically risky, but definitely creates a lot of opportunities to fuck up)
in general I do agree playing ironmans super slow just kinda takes away the point of them, so I never tried to do any super degenerate stuff that would have technically made things easier for me, but I still think the aspect of maximizing reliability can be very engaging for just about any game
