Just got picked up as a City Carrier Assistant. Haven’t started yet, orientation’s coming up. I’ve done delivery work before so I know how it is out on the street — long days, weather doesn’t care, people don’t either. Whatever. I’m not scared of working.
I know this job isn’t easy. I’ve heard about the walking, the heat, the long days. Cool. That’s life. What I care about is how to do it smart. How to not burn out early. How to move up. I’m not here to coast — I want the check, the benefits, the career.
What’s the real day-to-day like? Not the “omg you’re gonna die” Reddit takes — I want the straight facts. How do you stay efficient? What gear makes a difference? How long did it take you to get into a rhythm?
Also, what’s the money really look like first year? I’ve seen numbers from $40k to $60k depending on OT. Is that legit?
If you’ve done this job, drop some real insight. I’m trying to hit the ground running. Orientation is Monday so yeah
