Ive always liked pike + small shield, and really any polearm more heavy duty then a regular spear + shield in general.
alexander's pikemen are an obvious example, but there were also those knights that dismounted and used their lances as pikes against the swiss. unfortunately I dont believe it was used all that much by knights, but its a cool aesthetic nonetheless.
