Damn Cates and his idea of the rule of cool being the lamest stuff possible leading to further confusion. Marvel can't even put in the dragon symbol on everything. Because Venom was still connected to Spidey as a franchise for so long without bonding to other people/aliens or all the symbiotes made by writers being born from Venom or Carnage, we don't have nearly as many symbiotes completely divorced from Spidey.
We haven't even seen a symbiote just chilling on an alien planet somewhere that has no spider-powers. That and the lack of any rules being established, we get inconsistent shit all the time. Fuck. I mean I don't want too many rules as a cosmic horror villain needs mystery but some would be nice. Cthulu had to be destroyed at the end some way or else the whole world would end. Sonics and fire aren't the end all, be all.

Anyway, another idea I had that even though Cates run sucks, I like the history angle where they showed up earlier in history. A nun during the middle ages getting a symbiote would be baller. Perfect reluctant heroine and the black and white fits the same idea Eddie had when he used the symbiote to be a priest in 300. Maybe the symbiote could have bonded with animals and given the nun the powers of those animals or with a norse character like Enchantress.
