It would be interesting to explore the mindset of this jocks, sure they've been basically brainwashed with new memories but there is a sense that enough of their former selves is there to not consider it a total identity death. Now the one girl who does remember is an interesting case because she clearly has the old memories but also enough of a new different personality that she can notice she used to think and act different. Sort of like those people who get brain damage and suddenly become different despite being the same person.
