The only one that's comparable (at least in the UK) is the GFC, and in some ways, it wasn't as bad as COVID. Salaries flatlining isn't great when inflation is high and the price of basic consumer goods like food increases by 50% over the course of three years. COVID also hurt youngfags and poorfags more than the GFC did, since those are typically the sorts of people working in tourism, restaurants, hospitality, etc. I don't know what other situations you might be thinking of, but you have to go back to the 1980s to find something as bad in the UK.

I thought this was already the case. As far as I'm aware, a large percentage of people in the IT/finance sector work remotely, and just commute into London whenever they need to.
