agreed, now that the book was explicit about them being best friends it's even worse. Tatsu inserted so many new characters, which are all very likeable, but forgot to work on his mains' relationships besides Momo and Okarun. Jiji and Okarun are an adorable dynamic, I don't give a darn about the love rivals thing, I want to see them being bros but it's not a priority neither for the author nor for most fans who are in for OkaMomo mostly
