Most Sonic fans went down the JP purist route due to the 2010s, as it was the decade where the Sonic franchise almost entirely abandoned it's Japanese roots in favor of appealing towards a western audience after the (awful) backlash towards the 2000s era of Sonic games. The 2010s also had Archie(Western comic) and Sonic Boom(Basically Sonic but western edition), so the Sonic IP felt like it was just an another western IP akin to Crash, Spyro, Banjo & Koozie, or even Jax & Daxter.
