There is a huge, and I mean a huge, problem with classical D&D vancian casting. It's a huge problem, everyone knows it's a huge problem, everyone fucking knows it's an issue with the game. No other non-inspired D&D games have such an issue with magic. It's born of the very fact that D&D is antediluvian, born of tabletop wargames, before any tabletop RPG was even thought of. Gary Gygax fucked up with his implementation of magic - he knows he fucked it up, and admitted he fucked up before dying.

But nerds can cast Time-Stop and Meteor in a single round, and that's fucking awesome. So each subsequent D&D editions didn't shy away from broken Vancian magic, but only strenghtened it. After all it's very very cool, you're a mage and you can teleport and be invisible and summon demons before stopping time. Very cool. All the nerds love it. (it breaks the game, but all the nerds love it)

D&D 4e was a good idea, on paper: remove all that bullshit. No spells, no bullshit, everyone is equal. It would be a great idea if that tabletop MMORPG didn't, you know, REMOVE THE ENTIRE CONCEPT OF SPELLS from gameplay. And did some unspeakable thing to the lore. Removing the very concept of wizard casting spells because spells are too powerful seems like a bit of an overreaction.

4E was so bad it fucking birthed Pathfinder. When you fuck up so much a retard company get 50% of the sells because you fucked up your new edition so much people would rather eat shit than eat what you're writing. Congrats.
